Learn how to remove and replace the crank arm on your Assault AirBike in just a few simple steps.
Tools Required
- Crank Puller, 22mm
- 8mm Hex Wrench
- Crescent or Adjustable Wrench
- Pedal Wrench
Steps to Removing and Replacing the Crank Arm on an Assault Air Bike
- If replacing a crank arm, remove the pedal from the crank arm. Click here to read about how to remove a pedal.
- Remove the crank arm bolt from the crank arm being replaced. You will need the 8mm hex wrench.
-
Thread the crank puller into the crank arm and firmly tighten the top section using the crescent or adjustable wrench. Have you never used a crank puller before? Watch our video on how to use a crank puller.
Tech Tip
- If you do not tighten the tool enough, you will strip the threads. This will ruin the tool or crank arm, if not, both.
- Crank arm threads may have over-spray of the paint or powder coating on them. This doesn't impact assembly of a new bike, but can present problems when it is time to remove and replace a crank arm in the field. The paint or powder coating can block the tool from threading in fully. Clean the threads before using your crank puller to avoid damage to the tool or crank arm. Use a stiff wire brush. If needed, use a 22mm x 1.0 tap for heavy buildup.
- Working with the crank arm for leverage, loosen the bottom section of the crank puller with the crescent or adjustable wrench. If the crank puller has a built-in handle, turn the handle clockwise. This tightens the crank puller against the crank arm. As you continue turning the handle clockwise, the crank arm pulls free from the shaft.
- Remove the crank arm.
- Place the new crank arm on the shaft. Check to make sure the new crank arm is in an opposite position as the other crank arm.
- Install the crank bolt. Tighten the fixing bolt for the crank arm.
- Install the pedal.
- Check bike operation.
This completes removing and replacing a crank arm on an Assault AirBike.
