DEMO: How to Replace the Drive Belt on a Life Fitness 95T Treadmill
Overview
The drive belt on the Life Fitness 95T treadmill transfers power from the motor to the front roller. Over time, the belt can stretch, crack, or lose grip, causing the walking belt to slip during use. This guide walks you through the replacement process step by step.
Tools Required
- T25 Torx wrench or bit set
- Phillips head screwdriver
- Adjustable wrench
- Belt wax lubricant
Safety First
Disconnect the treadmill from power before beginning any work. Wait at least 60 seconds for capacitors to discharge. The motor and drive components can cause serious injury if the unit powers on during service.
Step 1: Remove the Motor Hood
Remove the four T25 Torx screws securing the motor hood at the front of the treadmill. Carefully lift the hood off and set it aside. You should now see the motor, drive belt, and front roller assembly.
Step 2: Release Belt Tension
Locate the motor mounting bracket. Loosen the pivot bolt and the adjustment bolt to release tension on the drive belt. The motor should slide freely on its mount, allowing the old belt to go slack.
Step 3: Remove the Old Belt
Slip the old drive belt off the motor pulley first, then off the front roller pulley. Inspect both pulleys for wear, debris, or damage. Clean the pulley grooves with a dry cloth.
Step 4: Install the New Belt
Route the new drive belt around the front roller pulley first, then over the motor pulley. Ensure the belt ribs seat properly in the pulley grooves. The belt should sit flat without twisting.
Step 5: Set Belt Tension
Slide the motor away from the front roller using the adjustment bolt until the belt is snug. You should be able to deflect the belt approximately 1/4" to 3/8" at the midpoint between pulleys. Over-tightening will cause premature bearing and belt wear.
Step 6: Test and Reassemble
Reconnect power and run the treadmill at low speed (2-3 mph) for several minutes. Verify the walking belt tracks straight and the drive belt does not slip. Apply belt wax lubricant to the walking belt surface per manufacturer specifications. Replace the motor hood and secure with all four screws.
Troubleshooting
| Symptom | Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Belt squeals at startup | Insufficient tension | Tighten the motor adjustment bolt 1/4 turn |
| Walking belt slips under load | Drive belt too loose or worn | Re-tension or replace drive belt |
| Burning smell | Belt too tight or misaligned | Loosen and realign on pulleys |
