Replacing a brake knob on the LeMond Revmaster Pro indoor cycles is a common task that involves a single tool and a few minutes of your time. The knob receives a lot of wear and can fail, causing it not to function as designed.

Sportsmith shares the steps in case you are not familiar with the bike or have never had to replace the brake knob on your bike.

Tools Required:

  • Crescent Wrench

Brake Knob Removal for the LeMond RevMaster Pro:

  1. Loosen the tension of the brake knob by turning it counterclockwise.
  2. Take the crescent wrench and loosen the brake frame nut. Do this by turning the frame nut counterclockwise.
  3. Take care that the flat surfaces of the plastic nut on the end of the brake tension rod are facing both the front and rear of the bike.
    1. This is necessary to align the flat surface of the plastic nut with the flat surface inside the frame tube.
  4. Pull up on the brake knob to remove the assembly from the bike frame.

Installing the Brake Knob into the LeMond RevMaster Pro:

  1. The brake rod nut (either plastic or metal, see example below) must be threaded to the lower portion of the threads on the brake rod. See the position as shown in the example below. The nut is located between the two springs and below the plastic sleeve.
  2. You will want to align the flat surface of the brake rod nut with the flat surface of the plastic nut on the end of the brake rod.
  3. You will insert the brake rod into the frame, with the flat surface of both the brake rod nut and the plastic nut on the end of the rod facing the rear of the bike.
    1. This is necessary to align the flat surface of the nuts with the flat surface inside the frame tube.
  4. You will tighten the frame nut over the threads on the bike with the crescent wrench.

This completes the replacement of the brake knob on your LeMond RevMaster Pro indoor cycle.
