If you own a cable weight machine, you know that over time, the stickers or label for the weight stack will require replacement. We want to share a few tips to ensure your new weight stack labels stick for the long haul.
The most important step is starting with clean plates. Over time, plates collect body oils, sweat, and environmental debris from the gym. Stickers will not adhere well to a contaminated surface.
Something else to consider is the temperature of your metal plates. The best temperature for plates when replacing labels is room temperature. Labels/stickers do not adhere well to cold metal or metal that is burning hot.
Preparation Steps:
- Remove Old Labels: Peel off old labels and remove residue.
- Clean with Isopropyl Alcohol: Wipe down the plates thoroughly using 70% or higher isopropyl alcohol. This is crucial to remove oils and old adhesive residue. We do not recommend standard household cleaners, as they often leave behind a residue that prevents adhesion.
- Dry Completely: Allow the surface to dry entirely.
Installation Steps:
- Align First: Peel the label from the backing. If your labels have a hole for the weight pin, align this hole first to ensure the sticker is centered.
- Press and Smooth: Press the label onto the plate, then use a squeegee, credit card, or your thumb to press firmly from the center to the edges to eliminate air bubbles.
- Set the Adhesive: Run your hand over the label again, applying firm pressure to ensure maximum contact. The adhesive will continue to set over the next 24 hours.
This completes how to replace the weight stack labels or stickers on a strength cable machine.
